Antique Cast Iron AC Williams Still Penny Bank Owl Standing on a Tree Stump Be Wise Save Money

Description: Antique and rather rare very nice gold colored cast iron still penny bank. The bank is cast in the form of an owl standing on a branch of a tree stump. The bank is colored in gold and has the word "BE WISE SAVE MONEY" in raised lettering colored in red on the tree stump. The bank is made of two parts held together with a screw , which appears to be original to the bank. The casting is very well done and shows great details of the owl's face and plumage as well as the tree stump. The bank appears to be all original and retains most of its original paint. It has the coin slot on the back of the owl's head. This is a very nice looking rare penny bank in very good condition. Please see page 90 in Andy and Susan Moor's Book "The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks" Published by Schiffer Books in 1984, for a photo of a similar example (bank number 598). Date: Uncertain, but known to have been made between 1912-1920's.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in South eastern Pennsylvania. The bank was made by AC Williams.

Size: The bank measures ~4 7/8" at its tallest and ~2 1/2" at its widest point. The base measures ~2 3/8" by ~2" and the bank weighs about 13 ounces.

Maker: A.C. Williams.

Marks: We have opened the bank and were unable to identify any markings.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a great and rare still penny bank which would make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The bank is in very good condition. It has no breaks and no repairs. It is all original with its original screw and retains most of its original gold and red paint (>80%25). The bank shows some soiling and scratches to the surface. A great looking rare bank worthy of a spot in your collection.
