Antique Cast Iron American No. 8 PATT. No. 151 Griswold Ball Joint Waffle Maker Patented July 11, 1922

Description: A great cast iron antique Griswold waffle maker or waffle iron. This early 1900s paddle shaped waffle iron with a ball joint comes complete with the base ring having an intact wire handle. This waffle iron is marked on top "AMERICAN No. 8 PATT. No. 151 THE GRISWOLD MFG. CO. ERIE PA., U.S.A. PAT'D JULY 11, 1922." in raised lettering on top. It also has the GRISWOLD mark in the center. The iron has a coiled handle and the joint when separated reveals a top and a bottom for the maker. This paddle shaped maker has traditional square nub waffle pattern on the inside and rest nicely in the base ring and can be carried using the wire handle. The piece is in great condition given its age and utilitarian function. It is black in color and looks great. It would make a great addition to your collection. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the 1920s-1930s.

Origin: Purchased at an auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Griswold is based in Erie Pennsylvania.

Size: The base ring measures ~10" in diameter. The waffle iron is ~7 3/4" in diameter with the handle being ~7 1/2" long. The entire piece with the base ring weighs about 9 pounds seven ounces.

Maker: Griswold Manufacturing Company.

Marks: On the top and bottom of the waffle iron the words "AMERICAN No. 8 PATT. No. 151 THE GRISWOLD MFG. CO. ERIE PA., U.S.A. PAT'D JULY 11, 1922." in raised lettering on top. It also has the GRISWOLD mark in the center.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very clean and in good condition antique waffle maker, which would make a great addition to your collection.

Condition: In very good condition with no breaks, damage, or repairs that we could identify. The piece appears to be all original and has wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. The inside shows some rust spots as do some spots on the exterior. The surface also has some minor losses to the black finish here and there, but nothing of concern. The piece is soiled and would probably benefit form a good cleaning but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Be that as it may, the piece looks great and would display very well in your collection. Please view photos for additional condition information.
