Antique Cast Iron Doorknocker Black Flower Basket Ribbon on Top
Description: This is a ca 1930's cast iron doorknocker. This doorknocker is in the shape of a urn shaped flower basket with a ribbon tied to form a bow on top. The entire piece is painted with black finish to prevent it from rusting. The basket is in the form of an urn with a pedestal base and the basket is full of flowers which appear to be roses and they are spilling over the edge. There is a ribbon with a bow on top from which the basket is hanging. The flower basket swings on a pivot attached to an oval backing. The backing has a raised pin where the basket hits to make the knocking sound. The oval base also has two holes for screws to affix the entire piece on a door. The backing is oval and is also covered with the black finish and having repeating rectangular grooves along the edge. The piece is unmarked. Date: Uncertain but most likely circa 1930's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The back measures ~4" by ~2 1/8" while the front measures ~3 1/2" tall and ~2 5/8" at its widest. The piece weighs about 7 ounces.

Condition: In very good condition with no breaks or repairs. The piece has several minor surface scratches and a few minor rust spots. The knocker works very well and has a nice knocking sound. It is all original with original swivel pin. There is a faint written number "660 on the back, which can only be seen when the piece is at a certain angle to the light.
