Antique Cast Iron Painted Figural Bottle Opener Off-White Elephant Raised Trunk

Description: A painted cast iron bottle opener in the form of an elephant having his trunk raised and sitting on his hind legs with front legs stretched in front of him. The elephant mouth is wide open. The piece is painted in an off-white color and shows cast details of the legs, the tail, the ears, the tusks, and the eyes. The piece retains quite a bit of its original paint with losses and considerable soiling. The elephant's open mouth has a turned-up bottom which acts as the opener. The bottom of the piece has two round pieces of felt to sit on. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Early to mid 1900s.

Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: About 3" high, and the base is ~1 3/4" by ~1 1/2". The piece weighs slightly over 13 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice old piece, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.

Condition: The bottle opener is in good overall condition, with no breaks or repairs. It retains quite a bit of its original colors. However, it is heavily soiled with considerable losses showing the dark coloring of the cast iron below. All these issues are due to the age of the piece and use but they do not distract from its quality and beauty. The bottom has two felt circles attached to it so it would sit on them. Be that as it may, this is a nice piece and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
