Antique Cast Iron Silvester's Patent Slater S No. 5 Sadiron With Hollow Handle
Description: Antique cast iron sadiron or sad iron. This is the Silvester's Patent Slater S Number 5 sad iron and is an all metal teardrop shaped with a metal hollow handle. The handle design, which was the basis for the patent, represented a break through at the time (mid to late 1800s) since it made it cooler than other irons with metal handles. The teardrop shaped iron is made of cast iron and is marked on top of the base with the maker's mark and the number of the iron. The piece is marked on top with raised lettering as to the maker "Silvester's Patent" the word "Salter" curved above what looks like a pretzel having an arrow through it and the letter "S" in the middle. It also shows the iron as being number 5. The iron has a flat surface on the bottom, which looks to have had quite a bit of use, lost its shine and shows rust spots along the edge. This is a beautiful antique in great condition, which would display nicely in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
