Antique Continental Hand Painted Miniature on Porcelain Beautiful Young Woman
Description: An Antique very well-done hand painted miniature of a young woman or maiden on an oval porcelain. The miniature shows this beautiful you woman with brown hair and brown eyes looking sideways. She is wearing a white shirt with a red bottom and a blue over coat. The young maiden is also wearing ear rings and a neckless around her neck with an oval pendant. Her shirt is open on the top with the collar hanging on her shoulder. Her cheeks and lips are red in color and the drawing is very well done by what we believe is an accomplished artist. A great piece ready to frame and add to your miniature collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime in late 1800s or early 1900s.
Origin: Recently acquired at an estate sale in Southeast Pennsylvania. We believe the piece was most likely done in Europe possibly France or Italy.
Size: The piece measure ~2 1/2" by ~2 1/16" and weighs 24 grams or slightly less than one ounce.
Artist: Unknown.
Marks: Unmarked/unsigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice hand painted miniature very well done and beautiful in great condition. It would make a worthy addition to your collection.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition given its age. It was obviously framed in the past as evidenced by the coloring of the back. It has no breaks, no hairlines, and no repairs. It has no chips along the edges, which is where they would be expected. It has no major losses to its colors. Careful examination of the surface using a 10X loop reveals a couple of very small spots with paint loss or possibly they were not fully colored by the artist. Be that as it may, these are truly a non-issue and are mentioned here for completeness. The colors are vivid without any fading and the piece looks great.
