Antique Dutch Brass Wall Sconce Tall Backing Rivetted Construction Deep Base
Description: Beautiful, rare and very unusual antique Dutch brass sconce or wall candle holder or candleholder. The sconce has a tall rectangular backing with a hole on top to hang from. The backing has slightly curved sides. The backing is attached to a rectangular deep base with a hollow column in its center where the candle would fit. The column has a rolled edge or rim. The rectangular base appears to has a rivetted construction with its sides attached to the backing with rivets. The piece has been recently cleaned, is very well made, and just looks great. A very interesting old piece that is in very good condition and would make a great addition to your collection or can be used as a decorative piece around your home. Date: Mid to third quarter 19th century (1850-1875).
Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was most likely made in the Netherland.
Size: The base measures ~5 1/4" by ~3 1/4" with the side walls to the tray being ~1" high and the candle column in the center being ~1 1/2" tall and ~7/8" diameter. The piece is ~12 3/4" high from the bottom of the base to the top of the backing. The backing is also ~4 7/8" wide at the top. The piece weighs about 2 pounds and one ounce.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice antique piece which would make a great decorative item in your country home or a great addition to your collection.
Condition: The sconce is in very good condition with no breaks, defects, or repairs. The edges of the piece are sharp and without bends or defects, while the backing itself has a slight curvature. The piece has been cleaned and still has some left over brass cleaning agent. It does have some scratches, some minor dings, and some waxy residue indicating that it was recently used for its intended use. Be that as it may, this is a very nice piece worthy of a spot in your collection or would look great on your wall with a candle in it. Please see photos for additional condition information.
