Antique Figural Cast Iron Golden Still Penny Bank Three Wise Monkeys
Description: A beautiful antique figural cast iron still penny bank. It is cast in the form of three wise monkeys. They see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil as suggested by the position of their hands on their eyes, their ears, and their mouths. The bank is painted in gold with red highlights for the mouth of the middle monkey. The bank is made of two halves which fit together nicely and are held together with a screw. We believe the screw is not original to the bank and was replaced a long time ago. The bank has the coin slot on the back of the middle monkey. The casting of the bank is very well done and shows great of the monkeys fingers, eyes, mouths, knees, and ears. We have opened the bank and could not find any markings. We show the open bank and the way it looks inside. This bank was purchased as part of a large collection of cast iron penny banks, which we will be listing over the coming weeks and months. Please carefully review the pictures presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain, but most likely late 19th century or early 20th century.
Origin: Purchased in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA.
Size: Measures approximately ~3 1/4" in height to the top of the middle monkey and is ~3 1/2" wide. The bank weighs about 12.5 ounces.
