Antique Figural Cast Iron Silver Colored Still Penny Bank Small Turkey Standing
Description: A nice antique figural cast iron still penny bank. It is cast in the form of a turkey with its tail fully fanned open. The turkey is silver colored over what we believe is a base of gold coloring. The turkey bank is made of two halves held together with a screw. We believe the screw is old and most likely original to the piece. The bank has a coin slot on top right in front of the open tail. The turkey has two feet on which it is standing. The casting shows details of the feathers throughout the body and tail. It also shows the shape of the head but shows very little details. You can see the wings, as well as the beard hanging on the chest of the bird. Please see bank number 587 in "Andy and Susan Moore's book The Penny Bank Book; Collecting Still Banks" published by Schiffer Publishing in Exton, PA in 1984 for a similar bank. We have opened the bank but were unable to find any markings. We saw remnants of silver and gold coloring on the inside suggesting the bank was repainted sometime in its life. Be that as it may, this is a nice example of the a rather scarce bank offered here at a reasonable price and worthy of a spot in your collection. The bank was made by the A. C. Williams Company in the first quarter of the 20th century. Please carefully review the pictures presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but it was made in the period 1905-1935.
Origin: Purchased in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA.
Size: Measures approximately ~3 1/2" at its highest point, ~2 1/2" at its widest, and is ~2 7/8" long. The bank weighs about 13.5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice bank in fairly good condition despite the fact that it may have been repainted. It is well made and would make a good addition to your still penny bank collection.
Condition: Bank is in fairly good condition. We believe the bank, which is old, may have been repainted. It shows signs of rust throughout but mostly on the inside. It has lost quite a bit of its details and coloring (this was a toy and was probably played with extensively). The bank has no breaks or repairs. The head of the turkey shows little detail and lost most of its coloring. Although the bank is mostly silver in color, it does show gold coloring under the silver coloring. The bank lost quite a bit of its coloring and you can see the bare metal in many spots. Please carefully review the photos presented to appreciate the condition of the bank and recognize the degree of wear. We are selling this bank as found at a fraction of its true value.
