Antique Forged Wrought Iron Handled Heart-Shaped Dip-Batter Mold Rat Tail Hanger

Description: A beautiful antique handmade long handled heart-shaped dip-batter fryer mold. The piece is made of forged wrought iron with a heart shaped mold attached to a forged iron handle with two rivets. The handle is rather long and is part tubular and part flat. The tubular part, of the handle, is rivetted to the heart and flattens two thirds of the way up to curve is a rat tail shaped hanging hook. A beautiful antique handmade kitchen tool. This is a great looking high quality antique kitchen tool which seldom come by and would make a great addition to any collection. Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 1800s (early to mid 19th century), could be earlier.

Origin: Purchased at an antiques auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it was most likely was made.

Size: The piece measures ~15" long with the heart being ~3" at its widest, ~1 3/8" deep, and ~2 1/2" long. The piece weighs about 8 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice well made wrought iron kitchen utensil that is very good looking and would be a great addition to any collection.

Condition: The piece is in overall good condition with no cracks or repairs. It has scratches, surface pitting especially at the head, and signs of oxidation commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. It has a nice dark age patina.
