Antique Hand Painted Miniature of a Period Man in Rectangular Ornate Brass Frame

Description: An antique well-done hand painted miniature of a period man in a rectangular brass colored and ornate frame with a hanging loop on top. The miniature shows a man with white or light blond hair or wig and brown eyes looking sideways. He is wearing a blue coat over a white shirt. The coat has golden colored buttons. The man's cheeks have a hint of redness as do his lips. There is some blue over the face, which we do not understand and does not show well in the photos but is there. The image is covered with glass for protection and the backing to the frame is of unknown material and is held in place with bent teeth from the frame. The man is drawn on a brownish background which darkness as it moves away for the man's image. A very well-done painting by what we believe is an accomplished artist. A great piece ready to hang on your wall or add to your miniature collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime in late 1800s or early 1900s.

Origin: Recently acquired at an estate sale in Southeast Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measure ~3 1/8" by ~2 9/16" with the loop on tope adding ~7/8" past the frame's edge. The piece weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Marks: Unmarked/unsigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice hand painted miniature nicely done in good condition. It would make a worthy addition to your collection.

Condition: The piece is in good condition given its age. It has no breaks and no repairs. The glass cover has no chips or cracks. The Image has no losses to its colors and looks fine. The image shows some blue coloring over the man's face, which looks a bit off that does not show well in the photos but is there. The backing may have lost something and shows the teeth holding the fame and the backing together but that does not affect the image or the piece's integrity. The frame has a few minor scratches and is a bit soiled and would probably benefit from a good cleaning to bring out the frame's full beauty. Be that as it may, this is a nice old piece which would look good in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
