Antique Hardwood Butter Paddle w/ Integral Double Sided Print Floral & Pinwheel

Description: A beautiful and very unusual antique chip carved wood wooden butter print with an attached butter paddle. This piece consists of a large butter paddle with a short handle ending with a carved double sided butter print. The round butter print has two design. The top design is of a flower on a branch having leaves and having a notched border along the edge. There is also the date 1903 under the flower. The back of butter print has a central geometric design or pinwheel carving surrounded with branches having leaves all along the edges. The entire piece appears to be made of a single piece of wood. This type of paddle with a short handle having a print at the end is very unusual and rather scarce. The piece has a label from the antique dealer who sold the piece to the last owner with the price it sold for. We chose not to remove the label top preserve the provenance of the piece. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. 

Date: The piece is dated 1903. 

Origin: Purchased at an antiques auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece is probably English in origin. 

Size: Measures ~11 3/4" long, with the paddle being ~6 1/4" by ~5 5/8" and the print being ~3 3/4" in diameter. The print is ~1" thick and tha handle is ~~1 1/2" long. The piece weighs almost 10 ounces. 

Maker: Unknown. 

Marks: Unmarked. 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very good and unusual antique butter paddle and print with a nice and rather well executed design. The piece has a beautiful patina and would display nicely in your collection. 

Condition: The piece is in good condition given its age. It has general wear and losses along the edge of the paddle itself. It also has a stress crack extending about 1 1/4" into the body of the paddle starting at the edge. Other than that, the piece has a beautiful patina and is intact with minor scratches and dings here and there. It also has some stains, which we are not sure of they are original to the wood or occurred due to use. A great and very unusual piece worthy of a pot in your collection.
