Antique Large Top-Shaped Turned Cherry Wood Covered Sugar Bowl Acorn Finial

Description: A beautiful and rather uncommon large turned wood covered sugar bowl having a tight-fitting lid. This wood sugar bowl has a beautiful brown color having a light stain and varnish finish. The exterior of the piece has a stepped appearance and is top-shaped with an acorn turned top on the lid. It is supported on a tall shaped stem and stands on a circular base. The cover of the bowl is tight fitting. The interior of the sugar bowl is smoothed and shows the wood grain beautifully. This piece is made in the best Americana tradition common in Northeastern Part of the US especially in Pennsylvania Dutch country in Lancaster County. This a beautiful piece worthy of a spot in any collection. The piece is unsigned and undated and was most likely made in late 1800s. Date: Uncertain, but most likely made in the late 19th century.

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Lancaster County Pennsylvania, USA.

Size: measures ~3 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~3 3/4" diameter at its widest point and ~9 1/4" high with the lid closed to the top of the finial. The piece weighs about 8 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a beautiful handmade antique sugar bowl with nice coloring and patina.

Condition: The piece is in very good condition with a tight-fitting lid after being around for over 100 years. The finish is in very good condition with some minor losses and few small scratches. These scratches, which blend in fairly well are difficult to see and do not distract from the piece's beauty. It is clean with some minor dings to the edges but no observable losses. The cup does not have breaks, hairlines, repairs or damage that we could see. The piece is truly beautiful and would make a great addition to your collection of primitive Americana.
