Antique Lidded Pewter Footed Desk Organizer Box with Multiple Compartments

  • $ 297.77

Description: An antique pewter low profile desk organizer box. The desk organizer has two hinged lids creating two lidded halves, one consisting of a single compartment while the second half has 3 small compartments. The common hinge for the two lids is in the middle of the top. The organizer has four pewter round feet attached to the bottom corners of the piece. The piece has acquired a nice warm gray age patina and looks great. A nice antique pewter plate, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Unknown, but possibly sometime in the 1700s or 1800s.

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The box measures ~8" by ~5 1/4" with the lids closed and is ~1 7/8" high. The piece weighs about 1 pound and ~10 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Condition: The box is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The piece has a warm gray age patina and shows a lot of character. It shows some minor pitting, scratches, dings, and some stains. The edges of the lids are slightly bent as are the sides. The bottom has a very brilliant rectangle in its center, which we think maybe due to the removal of an old label, but we are uncertain. The hinge works properly and is intact with only a very small portion of one end coming out (see third photo to the right of the hinge on top of the lid). This is a well-used antique pewter box that has been around for a long time and survived. A very nice piece worthy of a spot in your collection of antique pewter. It would probably benefit from a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photo for additional condition information.
