Antique Painted Cast Iron Still Penny Bank Large Camel Reddish-Brown Gold Saddle

  • $ 89.99

Description: This is a nice antique painted cast iron penny bank in the form of a camel. The camel appears to be walking forward with his legs separated to mimic the walking action. The camel has one hump with a reddish-brown colored saddle on top. The saddle has golden colors on the lower part and is decorated with a crescent and star motif in the corners on both sides of the saddle. The camel is gray in color what looks like a muzzle around its mouth and head. The muzzle is black n color while the camel's eyes have white color. The head of the camel shows nice details. The camel has a tail on the back. The piece shows great details and the two pieces, which are held together with the screw, are fitted together very well. The screw may not be original to the piece but rather a replacement. However, we chose not to open the bank to verify the screw or the interior. Be that as it may, the piece appears to be all original (except for the screw) and retains quite a bit of the original colors. This is a nice piece showing great details and quite a bit of its original color. The bank has its coin slot on the beast's back within the saddle. Just a nice piece, which is fairly uncommon and would display very well in any collection. Please see Andy and Susan Moore's Book "The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd. in 1984 bank number 767 page 98 for a similar example. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1917-1920's.

Origin: USA.

Size: Measures ~7 1/4" high, ~6 1/4" long, and is ~2 1/4" at its widest. The piece weighs about one pound and 6.6 ounces.

Maker: A.C. Williams US.

Marks: No marks on the outside. We did not attempt to open the bank, so we do not know if it has any markings on the inside. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice example of cast iron figural penny banks, which would display very well and make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The bank, which is rather scarce, is in relatively good used condition with no cracks, breaks, or losses. It is all original except for the screw holding it together. The bank appears to have a good repair to the back left leg which we show in the last two pictures. The bank retains quite a bit of its original paint and has a great look. The bank is unmarked on the outside and we chose not to open the bank to verify the non-originality of the screw or look for marks in the interior. Be that as it may, this is a nice piece, which we are selling "AS IS" at a fraction of its true value. Despite the repair to the back leg, this piece will display nicely in your collection and would make a great addition to your collection at a very reasonable price. Please view photos carefully for additional condition information.
