Antique Painted Chalkware Still Penny Bank Large Pig Standing on All Four
Description: A nice antique, large, and rather whimsical chalkware still penny bank in the form of a pig standing on all four. The pig is decorated with a floral and foliate design in Victorian style of mid to late 1800s. It is colored in shades of green, yellow, and red with gray from the chalkware showing through. The piece shows a rather large and fairly round figure of a pig with ears and a snout in the front. It has eyes drawn above the snout. There is also a tail on the back portion of the pig. The bank is equipped with a loop on top to be carried with. It also has the coin slot on the back of the pig. A rather interesting and unusual old penny bank that is rather scarce and not usually seen. This is a very nice-looking penny bank in very good condition and would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Unknown but most likely mid to the late 1800s (19th century) or early 1900s (20th century).
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The bank measures ~7 1/4" at its longest, ~7 1/4" at its highest point (to the top of the loop handle), and is ~4 3/4" at its widest. The bank weighs slightly over one pound and 2 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice, very interesting and hard to come by still penny bank which would make a nice addition to your collection. Condition: This chalkware bank is in very good condition. It has no breaks and no repairs. The bank appears to be all original with losses to the paint which is reflected in the appearance of gray areas which show the underlying chalkware. It is a miracle that the bank is still intact since it would have been a toy and as such it would have suffered. The bank shows some soiling, scratches to the surface, and general wear to the paint, which can be seen in the photos.
