Antique Pewter 9 3/8" Shallow Plate w/ Plain Rim William Hogg Newcastle England
Description: An antique pewter plate from the United Kingdom. This plate has a flat and undecorated ~1 1/4" wide rim and a shallow center decorated with an incised line near where the rim starts. It was made by William Hogg of Newcastle on Tyne, England. The pewter plate is ~9 3/8" in diameter and ~5/8" in height. The rim of the plate has a rolled edge which can be seen on the back. The plate has a fairly shallow center with a decorative incised line along its periphery. The plate is marked on the underside with a goose or swan within an archway, the word Newcastle below it, the letters P, C, and D with what looks like anchors above them, touch marks showing a goose, the letters W and H for William Hogg, and a worn-off mark. The piece has a beautiful and very nice gray age patina and a great look. A nice plate, which would make a nice addition to your collection of antique pewter plates. Date: Uncertain, but William Hogg was active in Newcastle upon Tyne in England in the period 1780 through 1815.
Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The plate measures ~9 3/8" in diameter, is ~5/8" high, and weighs ~15 ounces.

Marks: Marked on the underside with a goose or swan within an archway, the word Newcastle below it, the letters P, C, and D with what looks like anchors above them, touch marks showing a goose, the letters W and H for William Hogg, and a worn-off mark.
Condition: The plate is in very good condition given its age (over 200 years old) and utilitarian function. It has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The plate has a beautiful and very nice gray age patina and shows a lot of character. It has scratches and dings throughout, which can be seen in the photos.
