Antique Pewter Snuffbox Snuff Box Curved Bottom & Flat Hinged Lid Crowned X Mark
Description: Offered here is an antique (early to mid 19th century) pewter snuff box or snuffbox. This rather small box is rectangular in shape with a rounded bottom and canted sides. It has a flat hinged lid, which closes the box tightly. The box is truly small measuring ~2" by ~1 1/2 by ~3/4". It fits nicely in the palm of your hand. The edges of the entire box are plain and undecorated. The inside of the box has a crowned X touch mark on the bottom, which we show in the photos. The hinge is intact and works as it should. The inside of the box as in the case of the exterior is undecorated. The box is all original and is in very good condition for being over 200 years old. A nice snuff box, which would make a nice addition to any collection. Pleases carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but was most likely made sometime in early to mid 1800s (early to mid 19th century).
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The box measures ~2" by ~1 1/2 by ~3/4" and weighs about 1.4 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique snuffbox in very good original condition, which would make a nice addition to your snuffbox collection or tobacco/smoking related collection.
Condition: This small (~2" by ~1 1/2 by ~3/4") snuff box is in very good condition with minor dings and scratches throughout. The hinge is intact and the lid closes properly and sits well on the edge of the top opening. The interior of the box is clean and has scratches throughout. The exterior of the box has a nice warm gray patina. The flat lid has a slightly curved extension in its middle which serves a thumb piece. The box was obviously cleaned as per the American Pewter Collectors which ensure the piece looks like it did when it was first made. The box is all original and is in very good condition after being around for over 200 years. The box could probably use a good cleaning to bring its full beauty out, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Just a nice antique pewter snuffbox worthy of a spot in any collection.
