Antique Primitive Tinware Hand Made Covered Pot with Wooden Finial
Description: An Antique and very beautiful tin ware, or tinwork covered pot with applied handle. The lid closes by fitting tightly into the opening on top of the pot. The lid has a nice brown wooden finial with a copper decoration. We do not believe that the copper piece, which you can see on the top of the finial is what is holding the finial in place, but we feel it is rather an added decorative touch. The pot is completely made of tin and is undecorated and not enameled. It has an applied handle with a fatter portion for ease of holding. The piece is nicely made and cleanly soldered, just great workmanship. It has a round flat base having straight and inwards rising sides which end in a rolled rim. The lid is of the lift-off type and is not hinged. The lid does fit tightly within the top opening. It has a triangular spout in the front which is riveted and soldered to the body . The spout has a perforated metal to screen out any solids such as ice which maybe in the liquid being poured. This beautiful American tin ware pot has a beautiful design and shape. It comes with an old piece of paper which says "Hand made in Hereford, PA PRESA". Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Late 1800's to early1900's, maybe earlier.
Origin: Was acquired at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The pot measure ~6" diameter at the base, it is ~9 1/2" high to the top of the finial, and is ~7 1/2" at its widest including the spout and handle.
Marks: Unmarked. However, the piece came with a piece of paper saying "Hand made in Hereford, PA PRESA".
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of Americana that would display nicely in any collection.
Condition: The pot is in very good condition and looks good to display. It has no dings, breaks, or repairs. It has acquired a nice warm and gray patina. It has one minor rust spot at the rim next to the handle which we show in the next to last photo. Other than that it is a great looking and clean antique piece. Please view photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of the piece.
