Antique R Wallace Large Cobalt Blue Blown Glass Pitcher Silverplate Lid and Handle
Description: This is a beautiful antique large and heavy blown glass pitcher, we show the pontil in the eighth photo. The pitcher which is made of cobalt blue glass is supported by what we believe is a silverplate frame held together with two screws. We show one of the screws in the last photo and the other is shown in the third photo. The frame provides a round base, a handle, and a lid. The frame has a strap which surrounds the neck of the pitcher and another that goes down from the top strap to the base thus providing stability and holding the frame in place. The lid is slightly domed, has a step in the center and has a finial. This is a heavy and very solid old piece weighing over 3 pounds. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but generally sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southern New Jersey. Made in Connecticut USA.
Size: Measures ~4 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~3 1/2" in diameter at the top, and is ~10 1/4" high. The piece weighs slightly over three pounds.
Maker: R. Wallace.
Marks: R Wallace 0377S Silver Soldered.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice piece of old blown cobalt blue glass with beautiful shape, coloring and design, which would make a great addition to your collection.
Condition: The pitcher is in very good condition despite of being over 100 years old. It was obviously well taken care of all these years. It has no breaks, no cracks, no chips, and no repairs. It does have a few small dings and scratches to the silverplate frame especially on top of the handle. In addition, there is a possibility that the top screw holding the frame is a replacement and not original to the piece (see last photo), but this truly does not affect the beauty or quality of the piece. Other than the silver-plate is tarnished and could probably use a nice polishing job to bring out its full beauty but we leave that to the new owner's discretion. A nice piece, which would make a worthy addition to your collection of antique cobalt blue glass. Please view photos to appreciate the beauty of this piece and for additional condition information.
