Antique Red Colored Turned Wood Rolling Pin Canister With Removable Lid

This product is currently sold out.

Description:  A beautiful unusual miniature and rather dainty turned wood canister in the form of a rolling pin. The pin is colored with a red paint and the handles are in dark yellow coloring. The pin has a lid on one end. We are uncertain what the piece is for, but I believe it may have been a curiosity item or a small trinket trick box. However, Terri believes it was a wood worker having fun or perhaps a pencil box. Be that as it may, it is truly a different, unusual, and great looking piece.  It is well done and the outside surface is smooth and the red coloring is beautiful. The inside is undecorated and shows the raw wood. The piece appears to have been made of a single piece of wood. The handles have been turned and are part of the roller and not made separate and then attached. The colors are beautiful and original to the piece. This is a great looking vintage piece which would make a great addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 1900's.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The rolling pin measures ~8 1/4" long and is ~1 3/4" in diameter with the handles being ~1 1/2" long. The piece weighs a little over 3 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nicely done dainty piece of wooden Americana.

Condition: The piece is in good original condition retaining most of the red coloring and considerable losses to the dark yellow coloring on the handle and the ends of the roller. The lid fits tightly and very well on the top of the canister. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs to the piece. There are scratches to the surface, some color loss, some dings to the surface, and general soiling. There is also a few dark or black spots which represent defects in the wood and appear to have accumulated dirt and as such got darker. Be that as it may, the piece is solid, in general good condition, and beautiful. Please see photos for additional condition information.
