Antique Redware Glazed Storage Jar Shaped Rim Willoughby Smith Womelsdorf PA

  • $ 187.77

Description: A beautiful glazed redware storage jar from Berks County Pennsylvania. The jar, which has a round flat base with curved sides rising to a shaped rim, was made by Willoughby Smith in the period 1863-1880. The jar is glazed inside and out and has a beautiful orangish-brown color. It shows dark specs throughout the surface indicative of manganese glazing. The jar looks great and is in relatively good condition but has a tight hairline crack that extends from the rim down for about 3 inches. The piece also has a small shallow chip to the outside of rim near the hairline crack. Other than that, the piece is intact and appears to be solid and stable. The piece is undecorated and is stamped on the bottom "W. SMITH/WOMELSDORF". A nice piece to add to your collection.
