Antique Repousse Sterling Silver Matchsafe or Vesta Art Nouveau Design
Description: Antique match safe or vesta made of sterling silver. This match safe has a repousse art Nouveau design on both sides. It has a striker on the bottom and a hinged lid with a hoop to attach it to a chain. The match safe has no markings as to the maker's name. It is marked STERLING (impressed from the inside near the edge of the lip where the lid sits) and has an imprint of what looks like a "B" or a "G" next to it. It also has the initials T H N engraved on the side. This antique matchsafe was probably made in the USA in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Date: Late 1800s or Early 1900's.
Size: 1 5/8" by 2 1/2" by 3/8".
Marks: "STERLING B or G" impressed from the inside at the edge of the lip.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A vintage and beautiful piece.
Condition: Match safe is in very good condition with no major problems. The hinged lid works great. The vesta has several spots with small dings, the most pronounced is on the back. See second photo where the lighting has given a brick colored highlight. The piece does not have such coloring this is a reflection off the ding. It has scratches and general wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function.
