Antique Small Trinket Box Glazed Porcelain Green with Gold Decoration Colorful Painted Transfer Rococo Scene Maker's Mark
Description: A beautiful old hand painted, glazed porcelain box. The box has hinged lid which is equipped with a flattened center to serve a stopper to allow the box's lid to stand in vertical position when opened. The piece is green in color and is hand decorated on the sides with beautiful gold floral and foliate designs. The panels of the sides are also framed with gold colored lines. The sides have a gold gilt line at the base which in combination with the golden brass ring forming the hinge frame are nicely complimentary. The top of the slightly domed hinged lid is also decorated with hand painted colorful transfer of Rococo courting scene. design similar to the one on the front panel and is complimented with a green ribbon all on a white porcelain background. The box has a flat slightly recessed base with straight rising sides. The beautiful colorful designs are hand done on the green colored background of the box. The two halves of the box have a golden colored brass rings attached to the porcelain rims which are hinged. There is a brass thumb piece which is formed in the shape of a scroll. The hinge has a small protruding metal piece in its center which prevents the two halves from opening all the way. The interior of the box is white, clean and is decorated with small golden foliate designs in the center of the lid and the center of the base. The bottom of the box is white and has a maker's mark consisting of two interlocking cursive capital letters "L" in blue under the glaze. Although it is not certain where the piece was made, we believe it is European and most likely made in Limoges France. This is just a nice old piece, which would make a great addition to your collection of small boxes. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Size: Measures ~2 1/8” by ~ 1 5/8" and is ~1 1/8" high with the lid closed. The box weighs ~2 ounces.
Marks: Marked on the bottom in blue color under glaze with two interlocking cursive capital letters "L." This is a French mark we have seen before but never.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice old box, which deserves a spot in your small box or French box collection.
Condition: Box is in very good condition with no cracks, breaks, hairlines, crazing, loss of color, or repairs. The hinge is intact but the box does not close completely as can be seen in the photos. There is always a space between the two halves when the lid is closed. The box has some soiling along the edge of the base, on the inside, and on the exterior, all of which can be seen in the photos. Be that as it may this is a nice and nice looking piece to add to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
