Antique Small Weighted Brass Fluid Lamp Ball-shaped Reservoir & Round Tray Base
Description: A nice antique small possibly chamber or bedside table top brass oil lamp. The lamp has a ball shaped reservoir with a screw on copper tube where a wick would fit. The piece has a round tray at the base and is weighted. The tray itself has a central column which rises from the center and is part of the tray. The reservoir fits into the center of the column. The piece looks very nice. However, we were unable to open the top and it would appear that the central column where the wick would fit has a piece of wick in it, which we did not attempt to remove. The base does rotate and is not static, but does not come off. The piece is relatively clean with some residue of brass cleaner within the bottom edge of the base. It has a few stains, some scratches, and a few minor dings. The piece would display nicely in your collection of brass oil lamps. It would benefit from a good cleaning to bring the beauty of the piece out. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description.
Date: Unknown, but we feel it could be late 1800 or early 1900s (Late 19 century to early 20th century).
Origin: Purchased at an antiques auction in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~2 11/16" in diameter at the base and is ~4" high. The piece weighs slightly over 6 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Unmarked.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very well made and nice fluid lamp in relatively good condition deserving a prominent spot in any collection.
Condition: In good condition with no cracks, no breaks, no losses and no repairs. We were unable to open the top and it would appear that the central column where the wick would fit has a piece of wick in it, which we did not attempt to remove. The base does rotate and is not static, but does not come off. The piece is relatively clean with some residue of brass cleaner within the bottom edge of the base, It has a few stains, some scratches, and a few minor dings. It is generally clean and appears to be all original and is intact. The piece could use a good cleaning to bring the piece to its original beauty.
