Antique Snuff Box Bakelite? Inlaid with Silver Hinged Lid
Date: Uncertain, but most likely late 1800s or early 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size and Weight: The box measures ~3 1/4" by ~2 1/2" and is ~1" high with lid closed. The box weighs almost 3 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice very well made snuff box that is very nice looking. It would make a great addition to your snuff or small box collection.
Condition: The box is in very good condition with no major issues that we could identify. It has no breaks, no losses and no major repairs. The hinge is intact and works well and is original to the box. The locking mechanism is intact and works well. The edge of the lid where the rivets for the hinge are shows a small crack next to the middle rivet and what looks like a small old repair around the right rivet (please see the 5th Photo). In addition, the box has a few scratches throughout, which are not very apparent, but are there. The bottom has a few scuffs and scratches, but again these do not distract from the box's beauty and quality. The silver inlay could probably use a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty but we leave that to the new owner. Other than that the box is in extremely good condition for being around for over 150 years. This is a beautiful box in great condition and solid. Please see photos for additional condition information.
