Description: Antique scissors type candle snuffer and wick trimmer. This beautiful snuffer is made of cast steel and is of beautiful design with heart shapes within the handle. It has a wick snuffing box, again made of steel, on top and a pointed shaped end. The loops of the scissors’ handles have feet one each which are balanced with a third foot on the shaped end. The handles have a heart each attached to the loop. The scissors handle pivot on a central spot and rests on three legs. The scissors have a spring loaded pivot that closes the snuffer when the handles are released. Please review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Late 1800s to mid 1900s.
Origin: Was purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The snuffer measures~6 3/4" long, ~2 1/4" at its widest point (at the end of the scissors' handles), stands ~5/8" off the ground and is ~1 3/4" at its highest point. The piece weighs almost 4 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice, fairly unusual (in the fact that it is steel rather than the usual brass) classic antique worthy of a spot in your collection.
Condition: The piece is in very good used condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has few Scratches and Nicks. The piece has residue within the box, some stains, and darkening throughout. It does have surface discolorations here and there. Moreover, the spring-loaded handles do not close completely on their own and when left alone the handles stay a bot open. Be that as it may this is a great piece. The piece could probably use a good cleaning which we leave to the discretion of the new owner. The piece is solid and beautiful. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the piece and for additional condition information.
