Antique Stereo Card Viewer Wood and Metal Construction Made By Kawin & Co. Chicago

Description: A beautiful antique stereo card viewer or Sterioptic Viewer. The viewer is made of a nice brown painted wood for the wooden rail and the card sliding holder. The viewer has a white metal eyepiece having a velvety liner along the edge where it would rest on a person's face and a wooden front having tow metal squares equipped with two glass lenses. The eyepiece has the wooden rail screwed to its bottom with two small brass screws. The wooden rail, on which the card holder goes back and forth to adjust the view, has a nice wooden handle on the bottom which swivels up and down to allow for easy storing of the piece. Date: Very early 1900s.

Origin: Chicago USA.

Size and Weight: The eye piece is ~ 5" in width and ~3" in height. The entire piece is ~12 1/2" in length. The card holder is about 7 1/2" wide and the piece is ~7 3/4" high with the handle fully open. The piece weighs a bit over 8 ounces.

Maker: Kawin & Company.

Marks: Has the following markings stamped on the bottom of the wooden part "KAWIN & CO. CHICAGO; PATD JULY 29' 02 & MAY 31' 03; PAT'D OCT 11TH' 04."

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful antique piece in nice condition. Truly a nice piece which would be a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The optics are good, the piece is in general good condition with scratches and minor wear. The handle, which swivels is intact and works well. There is some wear to the felt at the edge of the eyepiece and has a tear which we show in the photos. The two metal wire brackets that would hold the stereo view card are solidly in place. This is a beautiful piece, which works well and would display nicely in any collection.
