Antique Sterling Silver Footed Master Salt Repousse Floral and Foliate Decoration With Sterling Spoon
Description: A repousse decorated, footed sterling silver master salt having two rope like side handles and a sterling silver spoon. The salt stands on four repousse decorated feet and a has a flat base. The sides of the salt are rounded or bombe with floral and foliate repousse decoration. The salt has two loop handles on the side which have a rope pattern. There is a flower at each end of the handle foe a total of four which can be seen within the handle. The inside of the piece is undecorated and shows the repousse patterns. The piece comes with a small spoon which is also marked Sterling. The spoon itself is not decorated and is rather plain, maybe it is not original to the piece, but it came with it, so we are selling it as found. Date:Uncertain but most likely late 1800s or early 1900s.
Origin: Most likely USA. Purchased from an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The salt measures ~1 7/8" in diameter, it is ~2 5/8" at its widest including the two handles and is ~7/8" high. The spoon is ~3" long. Both pieces weigh 39 grams or a bit more than 1.25 troy ounces.
Marks: Both the master salt and the spoon are stamped Sterling.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice piece to add to your collection.
Condition: In very good shape with no breaks, dings, or repairs. Both pieces have some scratches and wear commensurate with their age and utilitarian function. They could use a good cleaning but we leave this to the discretion of the new owner. Other than that it is all there with no observable problems. Just a great looking antique.
