Antique Sterling Silver Match Safe or Vesta Repousse Art Nouveau Design Foliate Design
Description: Antique pocket match safe, matchsafe or vesta made of sterling silver. This match safe has a repousse art nouveau design consisting of a foliage or foliate design over a ribbed background . The foliage or foliate does not cover the entire side but rather emanates from the bottom corner and rises up and in and stops before it extends to the top and the portion where the foliate is not present shows a ribbed design. Nice art nouveau design. The vesta has a hinged lid with curved top and a striker on the bottom. The edge of the match safe on which the lid rests is marked with the word "STERLING" on one side and the words "PAT .APD.FOR 102" on the other. The inside appears to have a gold wash coloring, which is very unusual. Pleases carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
