Antique Teething Whistle Hand Held Baby Rattle Mother of Pearl Handle Sold By JE Caldwell & Co.
Description: A nice and very unusual antique teething whistle with a baby rattle having a Mother Of Pearl (MOP) handle. The rattle, which is made of an uncertain metal has a built in whistle and three rings with attached small three dimensional round shaped free moving metal appendages. These do make a rattling sound when the whistle is shaken. The piece has a nice size thick handle made of MOP. The rattle makes a nice ringing or rattling when shook and the whistle works well when you blow through it. The piece comes in a box marked J. E. Caldwell & Co.; 902 Chestnut St. Philadelphia. Size: The piece measures 3 1/2" long, while the ends of the MOP handle is about 1" wide and is 3/8" thick.
Maker: Uncertain, but sold by JE Caldwell & Co.
Marks: The whistle itself is unmarked. The box is marked "J. E, Caldwell & Co.; 902 Chestnut St. Philadelphia."
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It does have one missing ball on the backside. The piece has a minimum number of dings and scratches to the metal part but the MOP part is in great shape with no damage. Please see photos for additional condition information.
