Antique Wrought Iron Sliding Arm or Bolt Cabinet or Door Latch
Description: Antique wrought iron sliding bolt or arm latch for a cabinet or a door. The item consists of an antique portion of the latch mechanism with the sliding bolt and a more recent portion where the bolt slides into. We are selling the item as found recognizing that only the bolt portion is a true wrought iron antique, while the other half of the item appears to be painted cut tin or sheet metal. The latch shows a beautiful curvy linear design with holes on top and bottom to be attached to a door. The piece has nice colors ranging from light gray to dark brown and black. The piece is great with no repairs or breaks. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 1800's and could be earlier.
Origin: It was purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The old portion measures about ~6 3/4" long, ~2 1/4" wide, and the bolt itself is ~3 1/4" long and ~5/8" wide. The new portion (the sheet metal portion) is ~7 1/2" long and ~2" wide. The entire lot weighs ~6 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice and rare antique wrought iron latch in great condition, which would make a great aaddition to your collection.
Condition: The item offered here consists of an antique wrought iron latch portion with the latch mechanism having the sliding bolt and a more recent portion where the bolt slides into. We are selling the item as found recognizing that only the bolt portion is a true wrought iron antique, while the other half of the item appears to be painted cut tin or sheet metal and was made to demonstrate the latch and its workings. both pieces are in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs. The latch portion shows signs of hammering and some signs of rust as well as handmade imperfections. They are both soiled and have scratches all over. Be that as it may, the piece is still great looking and very nice. Please see photos for additional condition information.
