Bank of Belgian Congo 1942 Fifty Francs Banknote Pick Number 16a Nice Fine Currency Note

  • $ 127.77

Description: A nice fine banknote from the Belgian Congo. This is the No Date (1942 issue) Fifty Francs currency note issued by the Bank of the Belgian Congo. The banknote is black, orange, green, and violet on the front with the image of a Makele woman to the right. The front is in French and shows the serial number in red five times. This particular note has the serial number 994594 and is series A. The back is black on white with the image of a leopard walking in the jungle. The back is written in Flemish. The note shows marks of tape on all four corners on the back where it was obviously taped in an album. The note has neither a watermark nor a security thread. Please carefully review scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Although not dated this is the first issue of this series and was issued in 1942.

Printer: American Banknote Company.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 3/8" by ~3 1/2". Pick Number: P16a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B218a.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine with all the details being still well preserved. The note has several folds and general wrinkling, it is soiled with a few minor stains but has no objectionable stains, and appears to have been flattened. The note has no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears and no splits. The note has marks of tape where it was hinged in an album on the back on all four corners, which can be seen in the photos. These corners have suffered some surface losses, but nothing to truly worry about. Other than that the note has general wear and roughness to the edges. The corners are intact with some rounding and bumping but no losses. The note still retains some of its original stiffness but bends easily along the central vertical fold/crease. This is a relatively nice example of this rather scarce note, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please view the scan presented for additional condition information.
