Beautiful 1697 Large Silver Coin Italian Papal State Half Piastra Pope Innocent XII Nicely Toned Very Fine

Description:A beautiful and large very fine silver coin from the Italian Papal States. This is the 1697 AN VII Half Piastra struck during the times of Pope Innocent XII. The coin depicts the image of pope Innocent XII kneeling at an alter gazing to the sky with the legend "FIAT .PAX.IN.VIRTVTE.TVA." around the image along the edge on the reverse. This design relates to Innocent XII efforts to promote peace between France and the Grand Alliance of England, Spain, the Holy Roman Empire. The obverse has a polygonal framed emblem with the papal crown on top and having the legend "INNOCNT.XII.PONT..M.AN.VII" surrounding it along the edge. The coin is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It weighs ~15.9 grams and is ~36.5 mm in diameter. A scarce coin that is rather difficult to find. Condition: I would grad this coin as about very fine to very fine with beautiful original toning and great eye appeal. The coin has considerable honest wear to the high points but the design is still well preserved. A beautiful design for a rare coin. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal.
