Beautiful 1754 Large Silver Coin Italian Papal State Scudo Pope Benedict XIV

Description: A beautiful and large silver coin from the Italian Papal States. This is the 1754 Scudo, introduced by the Benedict XIV pontificate to replace the large traditional Piastra. The coin depicts the image of the bust of pope Benedict XIV facing right on the obverse with the legend "BENED.XIV.PONT.MAX.ANXIV" surrounding the image. The reverse shows a seated woman in the clouds holding keys in one hand and a church in the other representing mother church she is surrounded by the legend "MDCCLIV" for the date 1754. The coin should weigh ~26.4 grams of 0.917 silver and measures ~40 mm in diameter. The coin is graded by NGC as very fine VF30. It comes in a plastic slab and is so marked. This is the rather scarce Anno XIV variety. It is beautiful and has a strong portrait of the Pontiff with honest wear. Size and Weight: The coin weighs ~26.4 grams of 0.917 silver and measures ~40 mm in diameter.

Condition: The coin is graded as very fine 30 or VF 30 by NGC and comes in a plastic slab so marked. The Scudo was introduced by the Benedict XIV pontificate to replace the large traditional Piastra and as such this represents one of the earliest examples of the denomination. This example is the Anno XIV variety which is very uncommon. It has a strong portrait of the Pontiff with honest wear and great preservation of the details.
