Contemporary Carved Wood Redhead Duck Decoy By Jim Pierce Havre De Grace MD For Your Decoy Collection
Description: A beautiful carved wood and painted duck decoy. This is a decoy representing a redhead duck and is carved and signed by Jim Pierce of Havre De Grace Maryland. The piece is black, gray and red in colors. The duck's body is black and gray while its head is read with the bill being gray with a black and white tip. The decoy has eyes outlined in yellow with a black center. The decoy is weighted on the bottom with lead and has a metal loop to attach it from. It is stamped with the letters JP below the weight and the letters P and P on either side of the weight. It is also signed with engraving pen "Jim Pierce H de Grace md on the bottom. Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime between 1960 and 1990.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The decoy measures ~14" long, ~ 5 3/4" at its widest, and ~8" at its highest point, when standing on the lead weight. This is a substantial piece weighing over 2 pounds and 13 ounces.
Maker: Jim Pierce.
Marks: Stamped with the letters JP below the weight and the letters P and P on either side of the weight. It is also signed with engraving pen "Jim Pierce H de Grace md" in cursive calligraphy on the bottom.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear or losses to the paint. It does have a few spots of discoloration, one or two stains at the base of the neck (see first photo). The piece has no breaks or repairs. It has a few scratches and dings to the surface but these give the decoy true character. The piece has an age crack on the back of the duck, which can be seen in the second photo. Be that as it may, this is still a very nice piece and would display well in any collection.
