Currency 1940 Egypt Five Pounds National Bank of Egypt Pick Number 19c Large Nixon Signature Nice Very Fine or Better Banknote

  • $ 99.99

Description: A nice very fine or better banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 19th November 1940 five pounds banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is green and purple in color. It depicts the image of the building housing the National Bank of Egypt in Cairo in the center of the front. It also has designs of ancient Egyptian deities in rectangular frames at the top left and right corners of the front. The back is blue and red on green and orange background. The back shows an image of a building surrounded by palm trees in the center. The note has no watermark that we could find. The front of the note indicates that the note was issued according to the decree dated 25th June 1898. This particular note has the serial number 072292 and is from the series M/50, which is displayed three times in black lettering on the front and not on the back. It is signed by Nixon the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. This note is of the larger Nixon signature variety and represents a rather early date with this signature (the first issue of Nixon Signed 5 pounds was 18 November 1940). Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 19th November 1940.

Printer: Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. London, Great Britain.

Size: The banknote measures ~6 3/4" by ~3 1/2".

Pick Number: P 19c, with the larger Nixon signature. It is listed in the Banknote Book as B117d.

Condition: For international buyers, please note that the new US postal rates for overseas shipping are very high and we are unable to change them. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. Please check the cost of shipping before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or better with all the details being well preserved. The note is attractive but shows evidence of handling and wear. It has several folds both vertically and horizontally. Paper has some soiling and a few minor stains, all of which can be seen in the images presented. The note's paper is still relatively crisp and not floppy. The note has no tears in the border area, although the edges do show some wear and have small and minor nicks at the end of the folds. The corners are intact with minor rounding and do show a few bumps. The note has a small blue colored graffiti in the front's right hand border but has no pinholes, or splits. A great note to add to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
