Currency 1940 National Bank of Egypt 50 Piastres Banknote Cook Signature P-21 AU

  • $ 399.99

Description: A nice about uncirculated or better banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 18th May1940 Fifty piastres banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is green in color on multi colored background. It depicts the image of King Chephren in profile within a scalloped oval frame to the left of the front. The back is light blue and shows a crescent and three five point-stars left of center and the denomination to the right. The front shows the serial number, the date and the signature of Edward Cook the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. This particular note has the serial number 520848 and is from the series A/11, which is displayed twice in black lettering on the front and not on the back. The note has a watermark showing a scarab in the bottom of the center. A nice note worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 18th May 1940.

Printer: Bradbury, Wilkinson and Co. Ltd in England.

Size: The banknote measures ~5 1/2" by ~3 1/16".

Pick Number: P 21a.

Condition: For international buyers, please note that the new US postal rates for overseas shipping for first class shipments are generally very high and we are unable to change them. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. So please check the shipping cost to your location before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a nice about uncirculated or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note shows almost no circulation signs but has been mishandled and badly stored so it has a few light creases here and there and some dark stains along the edges. Other than that, the note is clean, with no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. The edges are intact and the corners are fully squared with no rounding, no losses and no bumps. The note retains its crispiness, and stiffness. A nice example of this rather scarce note in great condition to add to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
