Currency 1945 South African Reserve Bank One Pound Banknote Sailing Ship P# 84f

  • $ 147.77

Description: A choice very fine or much better (I would say Extremely fine if not for a bump at the top right corner) Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank one Pound note issued 13 September 1945. The banknote is dark brown in color over a multicolored background. The note depicts the image of a sailing ship to the left of the front with people in various activities along the bottom and a factory with multiple chimneys spewing smoke to the right. There is a rising sun next to the ship. The back is brown and red in color and shows the arms of South Africa in the center. The note has a watermark showing the head of J. van Riebeek within the sun's disk. The note is written in English and Afrikaans. The front has one signature, the date and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number A over 147 565126, which is displayed twice in black on the front. The back only displays the name of the bank and the denomination. Please carefully review the scans provided as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 13 September 1945.

Printer: St. Lukes Printing Works, London England.

Size: The banknote measures 6" by ~3 3/8".

Pick Number: P 84f and is listed as B712f in the banknote book.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as choice very fine or much better (I would say Extremely fine if not for a bump at the top right corner). The note has one central vertical fold and no horizontal fold. It has a bump at the top right corner which is the reason we are not grading the note XF or better. The note is clean with no stains. It has no pinholes, no graffiti, no tears, and no splits. The note shows roughness along the edges and no losses. The corners are intact, squared, with minimum rounding if any (with the exception of the bump to the top right corner). A great looking example of this scarce note to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
