Currency 1954 South African Reserve Bank Five Pounds Banknote Van Riebeeck P# 96

  • $ 77.77

Description: A beautiful very fine or much better Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank Five Pounds note issued 2.12.54 or 2nd December 1954. The banknote is dark green with brown and orange on the front. The front displays the portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck in an oval frame in the top left corner of the front. The front also shows a woman seated with an anchor in the bottom left corner, a wagon drawn by what looks like mules in the bottom center, a man with a rifle on horseback on a rock watching the wagon, and two cattle grazing. The back is also green in color and displays a sail ship in the middle of the ocean. The note is written in Afrikaans and English with the first line on the front for the name of the bank and denomination being in English. The front has one signature, the date and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number C over 36 747835, which is displayed twice on the front in black. The back only displays the name of the bank and the denomination. The note has a watermark displaying the portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. So please check the shipping cost to your location before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a good very fine or much better. The note has several vertical folds but no obvious horizontal fold. The note is generally clean with no stains. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears, and no splits. The edges are intact with no identifiable roughness or nicks. The note retains quite a bit of its original stiffness and crispiness. The corners are intact with some bumps and are minimally rounded. The colors of the note are clear, vivid and bright. A very nice note in great very fine condition to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
