Currency 1956 South African Reserve Bank One Pound Banknote Van Riebeeck P# 93e
Description: A beautiful choice very fine or much better Banknote from South Africa. This is the South African Reserve Bank One Pound note issued 26 November 1956. The banknote is blue in color on multi-colored under-print with portrait of Jan Van Riebeeck in an oval frame to the left of the front. There is a maritime scene in the lower right corner of the front. The back is light blue and displays a lion standing and holding scrolls in his paw in the center. The note is written in Afrikaans and English with the first line of bank name and value in Afrikaans making it Pick No. 93e. The front has one signature, the date and the serial number as well as the denomination. This particular note has the serial number B/270 505245, which is displayed twice on the front in black. The back only displays the name of the bank and the denomination. The note has a watermark displaying the bust of Jan Van Riebeeck. Condition: I would grade this banknote as choice very fine or much better. I am tempted to grade it as Extremely fine. The note has three light vertical folds with the central one being a bit soiled on the back. Other than that, the banknote is fairly clean and has no stains. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears, and no splits. The edges are intact and show minimum roughness if any. The note retains quite a bit of its original stiffness, sheen, and crispiness. The corners are intact with minimum bumps but are fully squared with minimum rounding if any. The note has a couple of light bumps at the corners (the top right corner and bottom left corner when looking at the back. The colors of the note are clear, vivid and very bright.
