The medal has the dates 1450-1475 and is possibly a later restrike of a papal bronze medal issued during the times of Pope Sixtus or Sisto IV. Sixtus IV was pope in the period 1471-1484. The medal shows the image of the bust of Pope Sixtus IV, in high relief, facing left on the obverse. There is the legend ""SIXTVS• IIII• PONT• MAX• " surrounding the pope's bust along the edge of the medal. The reverse shows the image of the closed Holy Door with the sun above and sun rays shinning on it. There is the legend "ANNO • JVBIL • ALMA •ROMA" surrounding the image along the edge of the medal. There is also the date 1475 above and intermingled with the date 1450 in exergue. Both obverse and reverse have circular raised borders. The edge of the medal is flat, smooth, and has no markings. A beautiful early restrike (most likely mid to late 1700s) papal medal. The medal is nicely toned and is much darker coloring than the photos suggest. It has chocolate toning with very nice eye appeal. A nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: The medal is dated 1475.
