Description: A beautiful and fully original choice fine or better banknote from Egypt. This is the Five Piastres issued according to the Law Number 50 of 1940. This small size note is green on brown underprint. The front highly ornate along the edges and has a brown wheel like design in the center. The back, which is brown in color depicts water flowing out of the Aswan Dam in upper Egypt. The note is in English and Arabic on both sides. This particular note has the serial number 742256 in Arabic and is series "Dad". It has one signature that of "Abdel Hamid Badawy" minister of finance for the period December 1940 through January 1942. The note has no watermark that we could find. The note is Pick Number 163. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime during 1941.

Printer: Egyptian Surveying Organization.

Size: The banknote measures ~3 3/4" by ~2 1/4".

Pick Number: P163.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a choice fine to very fine with all the details being very well preserved. The note is in good original condition and retains some of its original stiffness. It does show considerable circulation with many folds, creases and wrinkling. It is soiled but has no major objectionable stains, although it does have some light staining. The note's edges show handling and general roughness but no tears or splits. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, and no repairs. Its colors are clear but not bright. The corners are intact but have rounding and some bumps. Its overall appearance is still on the desirable side and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
