Elusive Egypt 5 Piastres Banknote Signed El Emary King Farouk at Left P 165b VF+
Description: A nice very fine banknote from Egypt. This is the Five Piastres issued according to Law No 50 of 1940. This banknote depicts the image of King Farouk I to the left of the front. It is signed by Abdul Gueleel El-Emary and as such it is one of the less common banknotes from this series. This small size note is a brown on yellow with the image of King Farouk I in an oval frame to the left on the front. The back is gray-green in color with a central number 5 over an Arabesque design. The note is in English and Arabic, with the front being in Arabic with an English serial number, while the back being in both languages. This particular note has the serial number 100448 located in the bottom right of the front in Arabic and the top left of the front in English. The note is series Q/9. It has one signature, that of Adbel Gueleel El Emary, and watermark throughout showing crowns and the F (in Arabic). The note is Pick Number 165b. Please carefully review the scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: Undated but most likely sometime around 1945.
Printer: Survey Agency of Egypt.
Size: The banknote measures ~3 5/8" by ~2 1/4".
Pick Number: P165b and is listed in the Banknote Book as B212n.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine with all the details being nicely preserved. The note shows vertical folds, general wrinkling, soiling throughout, some stains and foxing, and light roughness along the edges. The corners are intact with some rounding and bumps. The edges show some soiling and light roughness especially at the ends of the folds. The note may have been lightly pressed but is in generally original condition. A nice note to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
