Contemporary Hand Carved Wood Polychrome Painted Hog or Pig Folk Art Pull Toy By Walter and June Gottshall
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art figure. The carving shows a reproduced pull toy depicting a hog or large pig on a platform with wheels having a hoop in the front in which a rope can be threaded to pull it along. Such pull wooden figures are similar to children toys of days gone by. The pig is off-white in color with black splotches throughout its body with a pink mouth and nostril. It has eyes outlined in black with black pupils. The pig has a curled tail made of black metal and perked-up ears. The pig is standing on a green painted platform having four small wheels. The platform has a loop in the from where a rope can be threaded to pull is along. A great piece of folk art that is a reproduction of old primitive pull toys. Date: Unknown, but the piece is contemporary.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Size: The base or platform measures ~7 1/2" high by ~3" with the wheels being ~1" in diameter. The piece is ~4 1/2" at its highest (top of the metal tail). The pig itself is ~6" long and ~2" wide. The piece weighs slightly over 8 ounces.

Marks: Marked WJG. in ink on the bottom of the base.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and colorful piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection of American Folk Art.
