Large Papago Tohono O'Odham Indian Basket Round Deep Tray or Bowl Sun Ray Design
Description: A beautiful genuine large Papago, also known as Tohono O'Odham, Indian Basket (Native American). This round tray or bowl shaped basket is decorated with a design, made of darker plant material, depicting triangles emanating from a circle in the center of the basket. These triangles look as if it they are rays of the sun with the sun being in the center of the tray. The rim of the basket is highlighted with darker material in a nice slanted pattern. The basket has a round flat base with flared outwards slanted sides rising to a beautifully made rim. These basket are handcrafted in Arizona by the Papago Indian. This particular basket was hand crafted by Marian Cruz according to the previous owner. A very nice decorative piece to add to your collection. Size: Measures ~11 1/4" diameter and is ~2 3/8" high. This beautiful tray weighs over 13 ounces.
Maker: Based on the previous owner's assertion, the piece was made by Marian Cruz.
Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of Native American basketry with very nice and colorful design. Condition: The basket is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It does have some minor soiling, which we believe can be cleaned but we leave that to the next owner. In addition, the piece has the normal issues you would expect of a handmade piece like this such as obvious grass ends, a loose edge of a grass strand, and occasional weaving error. Be that as it may, the piece is absolutely beautiful and in great shape. Just a great piece to add to your collection.
