Nice 1858 Large Letters Flying Eagle Cent Very Fine
Description: A beautiful very fine or better copper-nickel Flying Eagle cent or penny. This is the 1858 issue. It is the large letter variety. The coin itself is better than the photos suggest and shows wear commensurate with its age and use. The coin shows a flying eagle with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" surrounding it and the date below on the obverse. The reverse shows the denomination spelled out within a wreath. This is a great looking coin, which shows a beautiful design with no detectable problems. These coins were designed by James Longacre and are becoming difficult to obtain in such a nice grade. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Size and Weight: 4.6 grams of a copper-nickel alloy and is 19 mm in diameter.
References: This is KM# 85, is listed in page 110 in "2010 US Coin R. S. Condition: I would grade this coin as very fine with all its details being well preserved and having wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin is problem free. The coin has a few scratches and some minor bag marks in the fields and a few minor bumps to the edge. It is lightly toned and has lost most of its luster. These coins are becoming rather difficult to find. Please see photos for additional condition information.
