Nice 1876 Shooting Thaler Lausanne Switzerland 5 Francs City View XF++

Description: A nice looking extremely fine or much better shooting thaler from Switzerland. This is the 1876 five francs silver medal issued in Lausanne to commemorate The Shooting Festival in 1876. The obverse of the coin shows two female figures shaking hand with a shield between them and flags in the background. There is the French legend "POUR.ETRE.FORTS.SOYONS.UNIS." (which means to Let us be united to be strong) surrounding the image along the edge and the words "LIBERTE ET PATRRIE" (Freedom and Homeland) on the shield between the women. the date 1836-1876 between the women's feet, the notation 5 F in exergue and the name DURUSSEL above it. The reverse shows a city view with the French legend "TIR FEDERAL DE 1876 A LAUSANNE", translating to Federal Shooting in Lausanne 1876, surrounding the image of the city. The medal has a reeded edge and is listed in Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins as X#S13. The thaler weighs ~25 grams and is ~46 mm in diameter. The piece is nicely toned with great eye appeal. Condition: I would grade the coin as extremely fine or better. The coin has all of its details well preserved and is nicely toned. The coin shows wear to the highest points with some surface marks. It has very nice eye appeal. It shows some minor signs of wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. It has a few minor scratches and bag marks. The coin is problem free and in great original condition. A worthy addition to any collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
