This is a 50 francs banknote. The banknote, which is a beautiful choice extremely fine or better, is lilac and black on green and blue background on the front. The banknote has a radiant red and blue design emanating from a central frame on the back. The back of the note has the French flag in the center with the words Liberte; Egalite; Fraternite surrounding it. The note unsigned and has no water marks. This particular note has the serial number 02642770. It also has the text EMISEN FRANCE and SERIE DE 1944 on the front. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1944.
Printer: Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Co., Boston, USA.
Size: The banknote measures ~6 1/8" by ~2 11/16".
Pick Number: P 117a.
Condition: I would grade this banknote a choice extremely fine or better. The note has a light vertical central crease but no horizontal folds or creases. It retains most, if not all, of its original stiffness and crispiness. It is clean with no apparent soiling and no stains. It has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears and no splits. Its corners are intact, fully squared with minimum rounding, if any. There is a crease on the top left corner when looking at the back of the note. Other than that, we believe the note has not seen significant circulation if any and if it was not for the creases mentioned above the note would have been worthy of an uncirculated grade. A great note from the end of World War II that is in great condition and would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
