Old Copper Teapot or Kettle Stepped Lid with Central Finial and Gooseneck Spout

  • $ 74.99

Description: A very nice old copper classic looking teapot or tea kettle. The teapot has a round flat base with rounded sides ending at a shoulder. A short neck is in the center of the flat shoulder, where the lid fits. The pot has a flat swivel handle, which swivels on two brackets rivetted to the body of the kettle near the top. The pot also has a copper gooseneck shaped applied spout. The interior of the pot has a metallic gray finish, which is mostly covered with what appears to be calcification from water that was left in the kettle over time. The lid is made of copper and has a stepped appearance with a knob-like finial in its center. The bottom of the kettle appears to suggest that the base is attached to the kettle's body in a dovetail fashion (see last two photos). A nice old piece that would display very well in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Unknown, but possibly early to mid 20th century. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The base measures 4 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~ 5 3/4" high to the top of the finial, and is ~8 3/4" at its widest including the spout. This is a substantial piece weighing over one pound and 3 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice, pretty, and very decorative piece, which would make a worthy addition to your old copper or teapot collection and would display nicely in it. Condition: In relatively good condition with no cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The piece has general soiling on the inside and calcification from water covering most of the interior. The piece also has some dings throughout, which can be seen in the photos and gives the piece a nice character. It also has a few scratches throughout, which are difficult to see. Finally, the piece has a few small spots of oxidation or impeded dirt here and there. However, none of these issues distract from the quality or beauty of the piece. Please see photo for additional condition information and to appreciate its beauty and quality.
